I took this from the programme for Sundays match as we possibly will not have enough time to digest the full amount of work that Roy been putting into this Day,
A Few Words from Roy
Firstly I would like to thank everyone who has helped in the organising of this Fundraising event for the Liberty Rose Trust, especially Dave & Jackie Hamilton who without their help I could never have done this.
This was a bit of an idea between us to raise funds for the Liberty Rose Trust, as a lot of you know while organising the event I myself have been diagnosed with incurable Lung Cancer, which has made this game a lot more important to me now and I know you all will make this day a success.
Also there has to be a massive thank you to Roger Davies for bringing the Ex Rams Legends to play us, Gresley Rovers for allowing us to host the event, Dave Foster for his help with the programmes, Johnson Controls for sponsoring the programmes,
Greenfield Royal Oak FC, and my group of friends who have given up their time to take part in this game, every-one who has donated prizes for the raffle, and also Carl and Dawn from the Liberty Rose Trust, Lets hope we can make Liberty Rose a nice amount of money today.
My final thank you is obviously to all of you who have come through the turnstiles today to help us raise this money; I hope you enjoy the day
Massive thanks to you all

Roys is the most modest Man I have ever had the privilege to be associated with, as normal we will turn up on Sunday for a game of Football unaware what goes on behind the scenes and while this was being organised our Football Club is running smoothly,
We all owe it to Roy to make show our commitment to this game and make it a memorable occasion,
We are playing the first half and I would like to see the kind of Football we are capable of, there will be a large crowd possibly bigger than any of you have played before,
The Rams Legends will show the commitment to win, for their pride they will not turn up for a kick about,
Let’s show the crowd a display of Football that will make Roy proud and show what Greenfield Royal Oak are all about, and make sure we have a great Day

If you don’t have confidence, you’ll always find a way not to win.”
- Carl Lewis
I was looking for an inspirational quote and when I found this one it hit home to me that I always have confidence in what I do or try to do,
I always believe that I will succeed and that is how I saw Greenfield as a team last season
I was confident that we would get promoted and have a succesful season,
Every week I had confidence that you would play well and give your all and once you all started to believe in your self we had a great run untill end of the season.
This season we must do it week in and week out, every week we will be the team to beat, we are the side that every one gets the most pleasure in beating,
When you play for Greenfield you have to live with this and be up for the challenge.
Each week we cannot relax or take it easy we must get promote this season there is not a second option !!!
You all raised the bar last season so there will no longer be excuses all you need is the confidence in yourself that I have in you.

In our second training session this Sunday I will be getting activity involved.
There is still some work on fitness levels, which is understandable, but this season we will start on the tactics we will be using for the coming season.
We may change formations from time to time but I plan to use the same tactics week in and week out.
By the time our last friendly has finished we will be ready for the new season.
I plan to have us all-knowing and playing what will be expected in every game.
We are now ready to move forward.
At the top of the site I have put a Target for our Goal Difference this season in the league I expect to end the season on a minimum of +60 to achieve this it will be a team effort.
Just remember for every goal we score will give us plus 1
For every goal we concede will take 1 off
Only as a team will you reach my target
I don’t want to walk off the park winning 6-4
The 6 goals we have scored will only mean we have added 2
You never let me down when I set targets and I promise you all I wont let you down

TODAYS THOUGHT
All sports are games of inches. ~Dick Ritger

Team talk on this quote if you havent already seen it
After Seasons of waiting Greenfield Royal Oak were in their first Cup Final, Football is all about History and every member of the squad should be proud to be a part of this Day.
Everyone has worked hard over the years and finally the Club has achieved its first recognition.
There was a lot of hard work going into the Day and a special word should be made for Both The Royal Oak and Johnson Controls for their magnificent efforts in making sure we were well turned out for the Day.
Making our first final is disappointing when lost but the praise that went our way was satisfying but unfortunately could not take the taste of defeat away.
The experience is now something that we should now strive for each season, we are now no longer a nearly club, the first is always the hardest but once achieved is the new level for each season.
The positives from the game was we were the better side on the Day, this was even relayed to us from the Etwall Manager and most of the crowd.
Our expectation and experience levels have now gone up which we need to maintain next season.
On this final note I would like to thank each and every one of you for the effort and commitment shown last season,
I know I also speak on behalf of Bryan when I say that even when things were tough you all came through
We had more highs than lows and for a small squad you done us proud and you should also be proud of yourselves
Dave

THOUGHT OF THE DAY
My drinking team has a soccer problem”
David jp McIntosh
The New Year started very slowly as our first match was against Moira in the league on the 24th of January even though not a cup game this match deserves a mention as the outstanding 9-2 victory showed how far we were moving technically the football was out standing but unfortunately we were give a glance into the refereeing standards we were about to see in the New Year,
The positives to be taken from the game was the outstanding way you over came this problem we went in 2-1 down and to a man you all carried out our instructions on how to handle the situation and we went on to score 8 second half goals.
Our next cup match was against Whittington in the Divisional Cup, we knew that Whittington would have issues facing us and we played exactly as they expected and came away with another 2-1 victory, which saw us through to the Semi-Final of the Cup
Next was the Junior Challenge Cup where we faced Belvedere F.C. Belvedere were running away with their League and had just been beaten by Willington in the Midland Co-Op Cup 5-2.
Belvedere were a very good side and it was to be one of those games where we did everything but score and they came away 3-2 victors.
After the match it was discovered that they played a player who was not on the team card, only the league know what happened but they were now beginning to baffle me “ how difficult it is it to put the players name on the card-unless there was a problem with him”?
We were now out of this Cup and shortly after Belvedere dropped out of the league a simple football solution was to let us go through but the league decided to give Shobnall Rovers a bye into the semi Final.
Possibly our biggest game of the season had arrived when we were matched against Willington.
Bryan and myself were working all week on the tactics to beat them, which were an outstanding success we planed to get them rattled, and give their back 4 little time on the ball it was working perfectly the side at the top of the Premiership could not cope with us.
Unfortunately we never allowed for one factor “Shaun Landslow” I would have rather been beaten 10-0 because we played badly than suffer what he put our Team through.
We should have take stock from the Moira game and ignored him, but when a Referee lets a player strike another and is left on the pitch we were fighting a loosing battle. I started playing football at the age of nine so I consider 50 years in Football gives me the right to comment on a disgraceful display of Refereeing and I will not apologise for calling the truth. Shaun was possibly being assessed so the good news is he should be doing Junior Football next season.
On a positive we could not have been any prouder than we were on that day Greenfield Royal Oak had played the best in the league and had shown what we were capable of.
SEMI FINAL
The Following week was our Cup Semi-Final and it was important to lift you all for this match after the disappointment at Willington, this was now our last chance for Cup success and after previous years being beaten in semi-finals this game has extra importance if we slipped up again we would be the nearly team, which is very hard to get by as extra pressure is there again next season. Our game plan was different which again you responded to but more Important there was no hangover from the previous week and you all played with a professional attitude, which saw us, reach the final of the Divisional Cup.
Tomorrow our Cup Final

TODAYS THOUGHT
One man can be a crucial ingredient on a team, but one man cannot make a team.
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar:
CUP CAMPAIGNE
Without any doubt the highlight of our season was the magnificent cup run, which saw us, have to play 12 matches.
Considering our small squad the achievement was even greater than appears on paper
Every member of the squad played a vital part in our run, which culminated in the final of the Divisional cup.
We have to go back a long way to our first match against Whittington in the Midland Co-Op Cup where we had a great 3-2 win, this was not the first time we would visit this ground, as I am sure Whittington were now hating the sight of our arrival.
Next came Burton F.C in the Junior Challenge Cup where a resounding 8-1 win saw us go through to then next round
Sandwiched in between came the Derby Junior Cup where we were very unlucky to lose a hard contested game in extra time
The next round in the Midland Co-Op was soon upon us and we were drawn at home to Hilton Athletic Res where another good 5-2 win had us progressing even further.
Our Cup Campaign was beginning to take shape and we were progressing well, Unfortunately we had now only played 2 games in the league which we had lost both of these games Blackfordby 5-1 and Etwall 4-1, we were now becoming the Jeckle and Hyde of Football,
As I mentioned yesterday I should have acted faster.
The Junior Challenge Cup was our next task to overcome when we were drawn against The Thorntree,
In this game you were outstanding the game was always going to be hard thought match, and we were now beginning to think and act like a well organised Football Team.
The Thorntree had a much bigger agenda than us they made more of the game than was there, for us it was no more than another football match but they fell into the very unprofessional trap of playing the occasion and not the match, we came through with a thoroughly deserved 4-1 win,
This was credit to you all as you played exactly to the instructions that Bryan and myself had set out
Our next Cup outing was at home to The Seal Inn where again we came through worthy 3-2 winners to progress to the next round of our Divisional Cup.
At this stage we were now thinking we were unbeatable; all could have collapsed around us as it was possibly we could become over-confident.
The next test was against the Drum and Monkey where reasons only known to them was twice postponed and then we were asked to play the fixture on our ground.
Again we played this as just another game where they made the mistake of making the game much bigger ( it was just another round ) My biggest memory of the game was while they were doing all kind of warm ups and circus tricks some of our side stood on the half way line having a smoke and watching them, ( even I could not have come up with a better mind game)
You were now learning the art of being mentally strong in how to beat your opponents,
In a hard contest we came through worthy 2-1 winners to see us move into the next round which would see us play Willington,
While all this was going on we were now at the end of the year and had only played 5 league matches and were sitting with 6 points
TOMORROW THE SECOND HALF OF OUR CUP SEASON
Where again we had to visit Whittington

TODAYS THOUGHT
(and for next season)
Dont look back. Something might be gaining on you.
-Satchel Paige
Over the next few Days I will run over last season’s performance, I should have done this on our presentation evening but here we are better late than never,
I will start with our league form and tomorrow I run through our Cup campaigns.
Our league form was very patchy which I must take the responsibility, all season we were running through the motivation side before each game we turned up for the big games but unfortunately I took my eye off the ball on some of our matches.
I pushed you hard towards the end of the season when setting goals, which you all responded to.
If there is a lesson to be learned It just show that there can never be less than 100% commitment on every occasion and in every game,
I promise you that will never happen again On the plus side we finished in a better position than last season which was a credit to you all, when most sides were switching off with little to play for you were competitive until the last match again I just wonder what would have happened if I had pushed you harder.
I also mentioned earlier that I would take you all out of your comfort zones, I believe that you are never the complete Footballer until you play and witness what is needed from positions you are alien to, and to fully understand what you teammates have to do in their position,
I believe that most of you have benefited from the experience I could run through every player individually but the outstanding part of this season was the way virtually every squad member when asked to play a different role done so not only without any problems but always stepped up to the mark.
Football is all about being able to play all around the park I was possibly more confident that you had the ability than you had yourself
My style of Management has possibly been different from what you have been used to because once the preseason is over there is little time to do any ball work or get together it is all about reasons to win each match.
I have been fortunate because as a team you all responded when we gave you the will and confidence to win and in the big games you all came up to the mark.
Our Final League Position was disappointing as we all know there were games that we didn’t turn up which is something that has to approached next season
We finished 6th in the league
P W D L F A Pts G/ Diff
20 9 3 8 62 44 30 18
I have listed some of the games which we should have won as you can see I have ignored Etwall, Blackfordby and Whittington
The matches that did concern me were
Seal Inn Lost 2-1 home
The Sump Lost 2-1 away
New Inn Drew 5-5 home
Moira Drew 1-1 home
New Inn Lost 3-0 away
These were 5 matches that we should have gained maximum points I think you will all agree this should have been the case
We would then have finished on 43 points, which is equal with Whittington and 6 points more than Blackfordby. With the league restructure this would have given us promotion
If you now look at the 2 Blackfordby matches and the game away to Etwall we only needed 4 points from these games to have won the league.
The Team I admire most were the Sump who quietly went about the season in my opinion were not the best side, but after losing to New Inn they then went on to take 12 points from there last 5 matches giving them the Championship.
There are lessons to learn for next season and we have to be up for the Challenge,
Like it or not we are the team that everyone wants to beat and to get over this we must become hard to beat some times we were too easy Tomorrow our Cup Runs

This was possibly our most successful Presentation Night as the team spirit is now reaching new heights,
There was a genuine appreciation from all in the room to the winning players but on evenings like this the real winner is the
GREENFIELD ROYAL OAK FOOTBALL CLUB
Shane cleaned up the night by Winning
PLAYERS PLAYER, LEADING GOAL SCORER & MOST SPORTING
Adding to this he also walked away with Division 2 Most Sporting and The League Most Sporting.
Shane thoroughly deserved all of these awards not only for his football ability but his attitude and no nonsense approach to Football When I say that he has been a pleasure to have at the Club I know that this comes from every member of the squad
“Well Done Shane”
Our most improved player went to Joe and was thoroughly deserved
I personally in all my years of Football never seen a player progress so quickly,
I know Joe has been frustrated at times this season especially early on when he was playing bit parts but through hard work and determination has now proved to be a valuable member of the squad, and he is still not the finished article.
“Brilliant Joe”
Roy and Joe
The Club Man of the year Trophy is possibly one that can be overlooked with importance but this is what teamwork is all about there are many parts that go together to make any side successful and normally what goes on off the pitch is missed.
This is what makes your club special there is no greater accolade than the acknowledgment of you piers, the names that have previously been on this trophy make it well worth winning and is a great honour.
Roy and Joe are worthy joint winners who bring something different things to the Party
Without Roy there is no way that your club could run to ther high level you all expect his tireless work and commitment make it easy for everyone to just concentrate on the Football
“I know you are never taken for granted Thanks Roy”
Joe
Again clubs are run with the knowledge that players turn up week in and week out, it is just a way of life that in every team and the world cup is no different that some players baring injury or bad loss of form will play every week but it is the palyers who are there every week and when selected always give 100% Joe is one of these players but has proved that working hard will get you selected on merit which Joes has done this season
“Again well done Joe”
Seb
As I said last night the managers player will always be difficult because every member of the side will either make the job very easy or hard I have been fortunate that as a team we all pull in the same direction occasionally thing go off track but this normally happens out of personal frustration and not malice to the team.
I have been fortunate and I know that Bryan shares my views that as a squad you have made the job “easy”!!.
My choice of Seb not only was correct but also gave me some personal pride
I have never considered the captain role to be just tossing the coin I expect a lot more and with Seb not only did I get that and more you all benefited
Added to the remarkable achievement of his consecutive games put him in a position which was possibly unfair to all the others candidates,
Not only was he on the pitch for every match at no time did he hide or take it easy
“Thanks Seb for making my choice right”
Roy
With Roys personal achievemrnt from the League just proves what we have always known
There are always unsung heros but not at our Club, Roy is what will make this club the most succsssful in the League and we should all be proud to have him with us.
We will always have players poached but thankfully most side dont look any further than that, we apprerciate the good thing at Greenfield and Roy could not be replaced with any Trophy ( perhaps a season ticket behind the Directors Box at West Ham if Sullivan and Gould are reading this and I will give you his number)
” Thanks and well done”
Finally well done to you all for a great season all we have to do next season is put some Trophies on the shelf at The Royal Oak as There is no other place that deserves more.
We are all very Lucky to have this Kind of Support
“NOW ALL WE HAVE TO DO IS BRING THE TROPHIES HOME”
“Wags having a half time beverage”
Seriously it is much appreciated the loyal Support that you give to the team even though it is not always mentioned
OUR ROGUES GALLERY
“Seb and Taffy Posing for the crowd”
Well done and Thanks again for all you hard work and commitment
Dave
In the coming week I will give a review of last season and what I expect from the season 2010/11
